Young + Wales Architects is seeking to hire an Architect with 5 to 7 years of professional experience in design and construction. We are a small, award-winning firm dedicated to enhancing Charleston’s historic urban environment through thoughtful adaptive reuse and restoration projects. Our office has received local, national, and international awards and recognition for our work, and we strive to provide our clients with the best outcomes for their buildings.

The nature of our office is that everyone will focus on three to four projects at one time, which offers day-to-day variety in projects and project phases. Employees will gain experience by supporting projects from start to finish and will be able to be present and engaged through every stage of the project.

Our work specializes in adaptive reuse, historic commercial and higher education renovations and additions, and select historic residential work in downtown Charleston. Our projects typically range in costs of construction from $500,000 to $6,000,000. Please note that this posting is for an in-person job located in Charleston, South Carolina.

Qualifications & Responsibilities:

·        Professional degree in architecture, plus three to five years of professional experience as a licensed professional is required

·        Knowledge of principles and practices of architecture including codes, laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to construction

·        Responsible for the daily design and technical development of their projects

·        Able to manage multiple small to medium scale projects

·        Ability to prepare, review, and revise drawings and specifications

·        Knowledge of contract procedures, bidding and construction administration

·        Ability to establish professional working relationships with clients, coworkers, consultants, and team members

·        Proficiency in Revit and a strong background with the Adobe Creative Suite is required

·        Personable, inquisitive, and committed

·        Strong time management skills

·        Strong interpersonal spoken and written communication skills

·        Strong interest in local history and construction methods
